Tribute & Message From The Family

Daniel Greene Porter, 70, husband of Elizabeth "Ginty" Porter, passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021 at his home in Seneca, SC.

Born in Greenville, a son of the late Frank Wilson Porter and the late Doris Greene Porter, Dan served for four years in the Air Force before working as a self-employed contractor for many years. He was as talented with a guitar in his hands as he was with a toolkit, and delighted his friends and family with his creativity, humor, and musicianship. Dan had a special gift for woodworking and was an avid reader and gardener.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Brooke Porter Juneau (Jason) of Greensboro, NC; Carly Porter Phinizy (Jay) of Richmond, VA; a son, Robin Greene Porter (Shannon) of Seneca; a sister, Diane Boyer (Larsen) of Greenville; and grandchildren Riley, Hayden, and Harper Juneau and Teagan and Marly Porter. Dan was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Wilson Porter (Patty) of Greenville.

A small private service is planned on the grounds of Ashtabula Historic House in Pendleton, SC, where Dan and Ginty were formerly resident caretakers.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home & Cremations in Central.

Dan played guitar and sang ("Satisfied Mind," I believe) at our wedding in August 1980. Always in good humor, smart and gentle at once. One of the really good guys!

So sad to hear about Danny. We were childhood friends and finished school together. We talked at the high school reunion. I remember riding bikes as kids going to his home. Also did not know his brother was gone. Many great memories of him. May God truly comfort your family.

I am sending love and condolences to Ginty and the entire Porter family. As with all who knew Dan, he was a lovely, giving, generous soul, someone who cared as much about his community as he did himself. His energy was infectious, and his love for his family, admirable. I am proud to have known Dan; he left a legacy that will not be forgotten.

Danny taught me to play guitar when we were in Jr. High. We were close during that time of our lives and I knew his family. Wish I had been able to connect with him after returning to SC.

Ginty and family, I am so sorry to learn of Danny's passing. I have many fond memories of him as a child visiting his Simpsonville relatives. It is sad that as we age we spend less time together. But life happens and we all go our separate ways. Much love to all of you.
